About Beth Ryan
My working life has always focused on talking with people and hearing their stories. But after more than 20 years in journalism and communications, I made the move into counselling.
I completed the Master of Education (Counselling Psychology) program at Memorial in 2011. My program included courses in counselling theory and practice, a thesis about men's counselling experiences, and an internship supervised by senior psychologists and counsellors.
In addition to my work as a private practice counsellor, I have counselled people at a community agency, offered student advising services, facilitated disability and accessibility services, and worked as a residential counsellor in supportive housing programs.
I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC), a designation from the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association that recognizes "standards of professional preparation, continuing education, and a formal code of ethics".
Each year, I take part in courses and workshops that allow me to learn new approaches to counselling and develop a better understanding of the issues that my clients are facing.
My most recent studies include a certificate in Working with Substance Use Disorders, a refresher course in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training, and workshops about the impacts of ADHD across the lifespan.
